Janice Tjen Retirement & Final Loss

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Indonesia’s top female tennis athlete, Janice Tjen, had to stop her steps in the event SEA Games 2025 after deciding to retire due to respiratory problems he experienced in the semifinal round. This condition made Janice unable to continue the match and unable to advance to the women’s singles final.

Janice competed against host representative Thailand, Mananchaya Sawangkaew, on Tuesday (16/12) morning WIB.

In a match that was tight from the start, Janice put up resistance before finally declaring her withdrawal in the first set when she was trailing with a score of 4-6. The breathing problems he felt were interfering with his movements, so the decision to retire was taken to avoid the risk of more serious injury.

Even though she failed to reach the final, Janice Tjen still contributed a medal for Indonesia at the 2025 SEA Games.

Previously, she successfully donated a gold medal for Indonesia in the women’s team tennis event on Saturday (13/12).

In this match, Janice appeared impressive by winning points in the women’s singles and women’s doubles matches with Aldila Sutjiadi.

Overall, the Indonesian contingent still has the opportunity to add gold medals. To date, Indonesia is in second place in the 2025 SEA Games medal standings with a total of 56 gold medals.

On Monday morning, Indonesia managed to add four gold medals, two each from triathlon and the other two from rowing.
