Jang Jae-seok: KBL Playoffs – Aiming for 3rd & 7th Wins

[점프볼=이재범 기자] “I think all players must make it a win. I want to get 7 wins in the 3rd round. Only then can we continue to advance to the top.”

At 9:30 pm on the 31st, a basketball match between Busan KCC and Wonju DB will be held at Sajik Gymnasium in Busan.

From 2016 to last year, Basketball Youngshin was held a total of seven times. Among them, four players participated in three games: Kim Dong-ryang (Basketball Youngshin’s record: 3 losses), Kim Ji-wan (2 wins, 1 loss), Lee Won-dae (3 losses), and Jang Jae-seok (2 wins, 1 loss).

Jang Jae-seok is about to participate in his fourth basketball competition.

Jang Jae-seok, who experienced basketball for the first time at Goyang Orion in 2016, has played for Ulsan Hyundai Mobis and Daegu Korea Gas Corporation for the past two years.

Jang Jae-seok, who transferred to KCC ahead of this season, is on the verge of becoming the first player in history to participate in the Basketball League four times.

In a phone call on the 30th, Jang Jae-seok said, “I am participating in the Basketball Youngshin Championship again. I have many records like that.”

He then talked about how he will take care of his body as a player who is about to start his fourth basketball career.

“I was doing weight training in the morning, but I decided to boldly cancel it and do it in the evening. The year before last, when I was playing basketball, I did weight training in the evening, so my physical condition wasn’t that bad. Last year, I thought it would be helpful to do weight training in the evening, so I did what I normally do and went to sleep. When I played the next day, I was so sleepy during the game (laughter).

I was able to run in the first quarter, but I started to sleep a lot from the second quarter. This time the game is at 9:30. When the game started at 10 o’clock, I felt sleepy in the second half. That’s because I’m not the type of person who sleeps late. So, I’m going to do weight training this evening (the 30th) and sleep late. “It’s a day when you’re allowed to sleep late (laughs).”

Youngshin Basketball Although there are players who have recorded three losses, there is no player who has experienced three wins. If KCC wins, Jang Jae-seok will become the first player to win three times.

Jang Jae-seok said, “We have a lot of injured players. We still played well, but we are currently on a losing streak. I think all of the players must make it a win. I want to get 7 wins in the 3rd round. That way, we can continue to the top rankings. We faltered in the 2nd round (4 wins, 5 losses), so I want to make Basketball Youngshin a victory. I also performed poorly in the last game, but I will work hard to do well in Basketball Youngshin.”

When asked about his physical condition, Jang Jae-seok, who recently returned from an ankle injury, said, “It’s not good (laughter). That day (in the game against Hyundai Mobis on the 28th), I suddenly stepped down and it hurt so much. It was an opportunity to shoot under the goal, but I said, ‘Ugh.’ I asked why I didn’t shoot, but I couldn’t throw because my ankle was sore. I can do it. I thought there was a problem with my ankle because it was sore. I thought it was broken somewhere during the game.” “It’s because my nerves are stressed. Now I know that and run.”

He added, “Even if you hurt your ankle, you have to do well on the court. That’s what a professional player is,” and added, “I shouldn’t look like I’m in pain, but I wasn’t professional.”

Considering that DB has many tall players, Jang Jae-seok needs to be active.

Jang Jae-seok said, “We played a lot in the last game against DB (22 points and 12 rebounds in 35 minutes and 33 seconds), so we won. DB will also try to catch us. I expect the guards will also put a lot of pressure on us. Heo Hoon is playing well, so we need to take advantage of this and score points. We need to show good height and defense.”

Will Jang Jae-seok, who is participating in the 4th Basketball Young Shin in 3 teams, be able to smile once more?
