Italian Teams Dominate: Women’s Club Volleyball World Cup Final

Savino Del Bene Scandicci and Prosecco DOC Imoco Conegliano won their respective semi-finals at the Women’s Club Volleyball World Cup, qualifying for the final which will be played on Sunday evening (at 8.30pm Italian time). The Club World Cup is the tournament in which the winning teams (and some finalists) of the main continental club competitions participate, and for the first time two Italian teams will face each other in the final. It is yet another confirmation of the competitiveness of Italian volleyball.

In the semifinal Scandicci beat the Brazilian team Dentil Praia Clube by 3 sets to 0 (25-23, 26-24, 25-19), qualifying for its first world final. Subsequently, Conegliano, who has won 3 of the last 5 editions of the World Cup, beat another Brazilian team, Osasco, 3 sets to 1 (21-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-16). At the beginning it was a tougher match than expected, because he lost the first set and was trailing 23-21 in the second, but then he recovered and won the third and fourth quite easily.

The Brazilian Gabi Guimaraes was the best scorer for Conegliano with 18 points, while for Scandicci the opposite of the Italian national team Kate Antropova totaled 20 points. Conegliano and Scandicci are currently first and second in the Italian Serie A, and last year they faced each other in the Champions League final (Conegliano, the best team in the world in recent years, had won).
