The new absolute Italian Para-Archery Champions were crowned in Rovereto. Palakosmos was the setting for the gold finals which saw Giuseppe Verzini, Elisabetta Mijno, Giampaolo Cancelli, Eleonora Sarti, Paolo Tonon, Asia Pellizzari, Matteo Panariello and Claudio Peruffo triumph in the individual. Once the Paralympic events have concluded, Rovereto will return to being the National Archery Capital in less than two weeks with the arrival of the Italian Targa Championships in the Trentino city from 17 to 20 July with over 800 archers competing.
THE ABSOLUTE INDIVIDUAL TITLES – After the qualifications and preliminaries on Saturday, Sunday was entirely dedicated to the matches for the gold. The last final of the Rovereto event is a seesaw of emotions staged by Stefano Travisani (Gruppo Paralympic Defense Sports Group) and Giuseppe Verzini who takes the first Italian men’s recurve title of his career. The athlete from the Cormons Archers takes the lead to 4-0, then suffers a comeback to win the Paris 2024 gold, the score reaches 4-4 and he also stays in the match in the fifth set with 5-5 which takes the match to the shoot off. In the decisive shot Travisani hits the 9th, Verzini the 10th and rejoices for the overall gold
Elisabetta Mijno’s incredible career continues in Rovereto. The athlete of the Arcieri delle Alpi wins the twelfth Italian title of his archery history, the eighth in a row thanks to the success in the final over Veronica Floreno (Gruppo Sportivo Paralimpico della Difesa) 6-2.
In the compound, the gold goes to Giampaolo Cancelli (PHB) who in the final gets the better of the home archer Christian Seneca (Kappa Kosmos) 142-131, deserving the third title of his career.
In the women’s race Eleonora Sarti interrupts the winning streak of Maria Andrea Virgilio (Fiamme Azzurre) who had won the title in all the last six editions held. The archer from the Defense Paralympic Sports Group wins gold with a score of 142-138, returning to the top step of the podium for the fourth time in her career, the last in 2017.
After the successes of 2022 and 2023, the men’s W1 Paolo Tonon returns to the roof of Italy, in the final entirely signed by Gruppo Sportivo Paralimpico della Difesa, the success comes against the reigning champion Maurizio Panella by 137-131.
Among the women, Asia Pellizzari (Fiamme Oro) confirmed herself as Italian champion for the fifth time, the fourth in a row, beating Daila Dameno (Arcieri Ugo di Toscana) in the final with a score of 135-117.
The reign of Matteo Panariello continues in the Visually Impaired 1, the athlete of the Arcieri Livornesi prevails over Loredana Ruisi (Arcieri Castello di Peschiera) with the result of 6-0, taking home the fifth Italian title in a row and the seventh in his career.
Among the Visually Impaired 2/3, Claudio Peruffo of Arcieri Niche wins the Italian title thanks to his 6-2 success in the final against Ivan Nesossi (Arcieri Castello di Peschiera).
I TITOLI ASSOLUTI MIXED TEAM – Comeback gold in recurve for the Arcieri Cormons (Petris, Verzini) who, after being 4-0 down in the final against the Arcieri delle Alpi (Mjino, Boaglio), recovered and won the shoot-off 5-4 (17-15).
Victory in the compound for the Castenaso Archery Team (Sarti, Nanni) who beat the Arcieri Padovani (Picci, Saccoman) 148-144 in the gold match.
The Arcieri del Castello are confirmed as Italian champions for the third time in a row in the W1 mixed team with Pellizzari and Tonon beating the Polisportiva Disabili Valcamonica (Giacometti, Menici) with the result of 143-92.
THE ABSOLUTE TEAM TITLES – In the men’s recurve Dyamond Archery Palermo (Arcieri, Campolo) takes revenge against Arcieri Cameri (Garavaglia, Airoldi) by winning the gold final 5-1, the second in a row between these two clubs. For the Sicilians it is the third Italian title after those of 2018 and 2019.
In the women’s field, the overall title was once again won by Dyamond Archery Palermo (Floreno, Scudera) who beat Compagnia Arcieri Ugo di Toscana (Papelishvili, Serani) 6-0 in the final.
PHB, a club from Bergamo, returns to the roof of Italy in the men’s compound and with the arrows of Schieda and Cancelli takes home the sixth title in its history by beating the Arcieri Padovani (Migailo, Saccoman) in the final 150-135.
In the men’s W1 it is once again the Lazio club Frecce Azzurre (Panella, Sorato) that wins the Italian title for the fourth consecutive time after the 139-118 success over Arcieri Terre di Castelli (Azzolini, Cassiani).
