Isak vs Inter: Liverpool Forward Fails to Score

Liverpool (without Mohamed Salah – who was left at home in England) had a goal in the first half.

French centre-back Ibrahima Konaté headed it in after a corner, but the goal was disallowed after a VAR review.

The replays showed that the ball was controlled on Hugo Ekitiké’s arm before it reached Konaté.

Liverpool’s Swede – Newcastle signing Alexander Isak – was rarely brought into the game and struggled to score in his 68 minutes on the pitch before being replaced in favor of Florian Wirtz.

Liverpool decided after the substitution

Isak thus has to continue to wait to score in the Champions League for his new club – he has scored two goals in red so far, but then in the league and in the league cup.

In the local paper Liverpool Echo Isak gets a score of six out of ten with the following justification:

“Fluttered in and out of the game before the break but contributed more and was unlucky not to get a couple of free kicks. Could have done more of a counter attack in the second half. Subbed.”

Liverpool eventually won the match 1–0 after a Dominik Szoboszlai penalty in the 88th minute.

Robertson: “A perfect evening”

For Liverpool, it is a nice three points after a tougher period with heavy results in the league and the famous “Salah-gate”.

– A perfect evening for us, important three points, says left-back Andy Robertson.

– We know that the results have not been good enough lately.

Extra negative for Inter was that the team lost two key players in Hakan Çalhanoğlu and Francesco Acerbi in the first half.

Both retired after injuries.
