Iran-Egypt 2026 World Cup Match: Controversy & Concerns

Of the 104 matches that will be proposed during the next Football World Cup, the one between Iran and Egypt, in Seattle on June 26, will undoubtedly be among the most scrutinized and debated. These two countries, with some of the harshest legislation on the planet regarding homosexuality (you can be hanged in Iran for being homosexual), will be hosting a “pride match” aimed at celebrating and promoting the LGBT+ cause, the first match of its kind organized in a men’s football World Cup.

The initiative does not come from Fifa, but from the Seattle local organizing committee (Seattle FWC26), which had planned this special meeting at Lumen Field on June 26, well before the calendar was announced, as part of the Pride weekend – we are two days before the anniversary date
