Iowa Basketball: USA TODAY Coaches Inquiry

The second loss of the season for underdog Iowa basketball (10-2, 1-0 Big Ten) forced the Hawkeyes to drop in USA TODAY’s latest sports coaches inquiry. Iowa fell a couple of spots to 14th nationally, earning 335 points from voters.

The Hawkeyes suffered a 90-64 loss at the hands of No. 1 UConn last Saturday from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, as part of the Shark Beauty Women’s Champions Classic.

Announcement

While the team actually shot pretty well (25 of 51 from the floor, 8 of 17 from 3-point range and 6 of 8 from free throw range) against UConn, the Hawkeyes’ downfall was their season-high 26 turnovers, which led to a whopping 41 Husky points off turnovers.

There are seven other Big Ten programs ranked internally from the latest Coaches Poll, including No. 4 UCLA, No. 6 Maryland, No. 8 Michigan, No. 16 USC, No. 19 Ohio State, No. 21 Michigan State and No. 24 Nebraska. Washington was the only software to drop out of the Top 25 rankings this week and now joins Oregon among the Big Ten teams receiving votes.

As Iowa spends Christmas at 10-2 overall, here’s a look at the full USA TODAY Sports basketball coaches investigation from Dec. 23:
