The news was advanced this Wednesday by La Vanguardia, coinciding with the fourth day of the trial of the Pujol family at the National Court. In this session the court has agreed to compel up to five members of the leadership of Operation Catalunya to testify as witnesses, among whom is ex-commissioner José Manuel Villarejo.

It should be remembered that the Government asked the judiciary to take into account Pujol’s physical and cognitive problems when deciding whether to try him. The court, however, ultimately decided to keep him as an accused despite medical reports against it, considering that he is in no condition to defend himself.

The former president, who was hospitalized for pneumonia in November, will be able to do so by video conference and his defense has already advanced that he will only do so when he has to testify.
