Hurts’ Historic Super Bowl Blunder: 2 Turnovers in 1 Play

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jaylen Hurts, who was named the NFL Super Bowl Most Valuable Player (MVP) last season, had a nightmare day. Hurts became the first player in NFL history to commit two turnovers in one play.

At 8 minutes and 30 seconds in the second quarter of the away game against the Chargers held at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, California, USA on the 9th (Korean time), the pass thrown by Hurts was intercepted by Chargers defender Deshaun Hand. This was the first turnover. However, the situation changed suddenly when Hand, who was attempting a return, lost the ball to the Philadelphia defense. A strange scene was created as the ball rolled back into Hertz’s hand.

However, Hurts lost the recovered ball to a tackle by the Chargers defense and committed a fumble, and the Chargers eventually secured the ball, completing a rare scene in which two offenses went out of Hurts’ hands in one play. Elias Sports Bureau said, “This is the first such case in NFL history.”

Hertz’s ordeal did not end here. He recorded a personal high of 4 interceptions and 1 fumble in this game, and committed a total of 5 turnovers. His pass was intercepted in overtime, and the Eagles lost 19-22, and Hertz had a terrible day, completely different from its usual stable performance.
