The three large street art works, which were created during the Badminton European Championships in front of Forum Horsens, will now have a permanent place in local halls around Horsens Municipality.
During this year’s Badminton European Championship in Horsens, Horsens Municipality’s urban life effort, MÆRK Byen, helped organize a wide range of cultural activities around Forum Horsens and the city centre. Among these was a special street art project, where three large paintings – each almost 5 x 5 meters – were created live in front of Forum Horsens in collaboration with Galleri Grisk.
The artist behind the works, Pil Anna Tesdorpf, who works under the name ‘PILAT’, was chosen to put her stamp on the championship. The theme of the three paintings was ‘women in sport’ and all the works reflect women in badminton in different artistic styles and expressions.
The works were painted as part of a marathon in live-painting during the EC, where the desire from the start was that they should have a long-term effect and a sustainable solution – that is, that the artworks should not simply be discarded after the event.
After an application process, it has now been decided that two of the large works will be set up outdoors at the hall in Gedved, while the third will take place indoors in Horsens Badminton Club (HBK). By placing the works in the local halls, both athletes and visitors can enjoy the striking works of art, which will also be found when Horsens again hosts the Badminton World Championships for teams in 2026.
The artist PILAT was born in 1995 and has a bachelor’s degree in visual communication from the Royal Danish Academy. She works as an illustrator based in both Copenhagen and Barcelona, and is known for her wall and wall paintings in retro colors with feminist messages, often focusing on the representation of women in sports.
The works will be hung up this week.
