Head of Legal Affairs

Responsibilities :
Assist the Director of Legal Affairs and Compliance in the daily management of the CAF’s legal files, taking charge of the drafting, revision and coordination of the files, without representing the CAF externally unless expressly mandated.
- Assist the Director of Legal Affairs and Compliance on all legal matters, in order to ensure reliable and timely delivery of legal services to the various divisions of the CAF.
- Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts (services, sponsorship, media, intellectual property, consultancy, leases, IT, confidentiality agreements), in close coordination with the relevant departments and external advisors where applicable.
- Contribute to the establishment and updating of the contract lifecycle management system (database, monitoring of key deadlines, models, clause library).
- Prepare projects and working files for regulations and statutes (amendments, alignment with FIFA rules, internal directives), under the supervision of the Director.
- Support the management of litigation and arbitrations (including before the CAS): coordination of documents, liaison with external counsel, monitoring of deadlines, preparation of summaries and procedural schedules.
- Provide daily legal support to CAF divisions (Competitions, Commercial, Finance, HR, Technical Development, etc.) on current issues, escalating any sensitive or strategic issues to the Director.
- Contribute to the implementation of compliance and governance systems (policies, procedures, checklists) designed by the Director of Legal Affairs and Compliance and the Governance, Risks and Compliance function.
- Support the secretariat of the Judicial and Independent Bodies (Disciplinary, Ethics, Appeal, etc.) via assistance with writing, preparation of files and taking of minutes, under the coordination of the Director.
- Ensure the proper maintenance, classification and archiving of all legal documentation (electronic and paper).
- Carry out any other task entrusted by the Director of Legal Affairs and Compliance necessary to achieve the strategic and administrative objectives of CAF.
Requirements (profile):
Formation
- Master’s degree in law (commercial law, business law, international law or sports law, or equivalent training).
Professional experience
- 5 to 8 years of experience as a lawyer or corporate lawyer, preferably:
- within an international organization or sporting body, or
- in practice, with a focus on commercial, sports, arbitration or regulatory law.
Business knowledge and IT skills
- Solid knowledge of contract law, commercial law and the basics of sports regulatory frameworks.
- Proven experience in contract drafting and negotiation (English as working language).
- Familiarity with litigation or arbitration is an asset.
- Mastery of MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to work with document and contract management tools.
