Nadine Nurasyid had already made history before the first game of this NFL season had even been played.
Last summer, the 39-year-old won the prestigious Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship and became the first non-American woman to be accepted there. She became an assistant coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the preseason.
A milestone and a great honor for Nurasyid, who was active in the coaching staff of the German national team from 2021 to 2023.
In the new podcast SPORT1 Deep Dive The Munich native now talks about a moment that is special for her: the first regular-season game in the history of the NFL that was played in Germany. In mid-November 2022, the Buccaneers with their star quarterback Tom Brady and the Seattle Seahawks dueled in their hometown.
NFL in Munich: “My personal Super Bowl”
“I still remember exactly what the first NFL game in Munich was like. I just couldn’t believe it,” Nurasyid remembered that day. “The NFL is coming to me, to us. I’ve never managed to fly over to games before, and now the NFL is just coming here. The game in the Allianz Arena was my personal Super Bowl. That was so emotional.”
And what’s more: For the first time, she was up close and personal with the action and had her first job as a commentator.
Nurasyid reported that she had previously been asked repeatedly if she would like to comment on something. “But I always rejected that because I’m actually someone who just sits quietly when watching sports and doesn’t say anything. I don’t feel the need to comment on it or comment on what’s happening. But then I didn’t come to the stadium. I just didn’t get a ticket and thought: ‘That can’t be true, I have to go to this stadium,'” she emphasized.

That’s why Nurasyid dem BR ultimately agreed to be a commentator. “I was sitting on the 50-yard line when Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers played against the Seattle Seahawks and everyone was singing ‘Country Roads’. There were tears in people’s eyes, it was very emotional,” the former national team player continued. “That still touches me and I’m happy every time the NFL comes here and we can experience it together.”
“I mean, not everyone has the financial means to fly to the US. What better way than for them to come to us?” she added.
Nurasyid eventually became an assistant coach for the national team and went to the Stuttgart Surge in the ELF as defensive assistant coach in 2024. She also held the same position during her time with the Buccaneers.
