Genk: Winning Mentality & Drive | Football News

KRC Genk has extended the contract of August De Wannemacker. The 16-year-old talent will remain associated with the Limburg club for three more seasons, until the summer of 2028. This means that Genk is assured of a player who has been confirming his potential for some time.

Breakthrough at club and national team

De Wannemacker was one of the strong players in the Belgian U17, who recently impressed at both the European Championship and the World Cup. He is also taking steps forward in a club context. This season he is a regular at Jong Genk in the Challenger Pro League, where he shows his qualities every week.

His game is characterized by intelligence and a clear winning mentality. During the preparation for the new season, he already had a taste of the first team. There he was introduced to the pace and intensity of the highest level in Belgium.

Educational philosophy and ambitions

Technical coordinator Stijn Haeldermans sees him as an example of the Genk approach. He said: “August is an attacking midfielder who can also play in the 8. He adds value both offensively and defensively. He combines this with an enormous drive and winning mentality. This combination makes him the personification of our training philosophy,” said an official communication from the club to our editors.

De Wannemacker himself emphasizes that he is in the right place at Genk to continue to grow. “I came to KRC Genk because for me it is simply the best football academy in the country. This is also the team where I want to break into the first team – via Jong Genk,” he responds.

He added that he wants to continue to take steps physically and further develop both strengths and weaknesses. “I have experienced this myself in recent years,” it sounds ambitious.
