◇The ’44th Gangwon Sports Awards Ceremony’, which encourages athletes and organizations that have brought glory to Gangwon sports in 2025, was held at the Chuncheon Sky Convention on the 18th with the attendance of about 200 key guests, including Governor Kim Jin-tae, Provincial Chairman Kim Si-seong, and Provincial Superintendent of Education Shin Gyeong-ho.

The ’44th Gangwon Sports Awards Ceremony’ was held at the Chuncheon Sky Convention on the 18th to encourage athletes and organizations that brought glory to Gangwon sports in 2025.

The event was attended by more than 200 people, including Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Governor Kim Jin-tae, Provincial Chairman Kim Si-seong, Provincial Superintendent of Education Shin Gyeong-ho, Provincial Councilors Park Ki-young, Park Ho-gyun, Lee Seung-jin, Lim Mi-seon, and Kim Jeong-su, as well as sports officials and athletes.

The 44th Gangwon Sports Awards were selected in six categories. In the category of head of member sport groups, Lee Jun-gyu, president of the Provincial Hapkido Association, and in the category of heads of schools at each level, Lim Gyeong-bin, principal of Gangwon Physical Education High School, and principal Han Seung-yong of Sangdong High School. The Outstanding Instructor (Professional Sports) category went to Yang Yun-cheol, gymnastics director at the Provincial Sports Council, Ahn Gwang-seok, Gangneung City Hall yacht coach, and Sabuk Elementary School judo instructor Bae Su-in. Gangwon Provincial Office weightlifter Won Jong-beom was selected as the best player, and the Kangwon National University soft tennis team won the best player group category. Kim Dae-deok, manager of the Samcheok City Sports Council, received the city-county sports association executive and employee category, and Gangneung Mayor Kim Hong-gyu received the special award.

The commendation from the President of the Korea Sports Council for meritorious contributions to sports promotion was given to Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Sports Council Vice Chairman Kim Gwang-soo, Director Han Se-beom, and Deputy Director Kim Young-il.

The Gangwon Sports Development Meritorious Organization Merit Plaque was received by Hongcheon-gun Sports Association (Chairman Shin Eun-seop), Inje-gun Sports Association (Chairman Ki-ho Lee), Taoist Shooting Association (Chairman Kim Hwi-jung), and Dog Ground Golf Association (Chairman Jeong Jong-ja).

In addition, awards were given to those who contributed to the development of Gangwon sports, including Vice President Kim Nam-seung of the Provincial Sports Association, Provincial Swimming Federation (Vice President Kim Chun-ja), Provincial Dance Sports Federation (Chairman Lee Geum-ok), Hwacheon KSPO women’s soccer team coach Kang Seon-mi, Provincial Sports Association general manager Oh Chan-ju, Gangwon Provincial Office diving leader Kim Eun-hee, Dogye Computer Information High School soft tennis leader Eom Ju-young, Yangyang High School cycling leader Kim Myeong-hee, Yanggu High School tennis leader Ki-hoon Jeong, Hoengseong County Office bowling coach Kim Hee-soon and others received awards.

In the category of contributions to the provincial sports competition and daily sports promotion, Lee Min-jae, director of the Provincial Sports Association, Kim Sang-hoon, assistant manager of the Samcheok City Sports Council, Seong Nak-hoon, executive director of the Provincial Billiards Federation, Lee Won-chan, executive director of the Provincial Shooting Federation, Seo Cheol-hwan, assistant manager of the Hongcheon-gun Sports Association, Kim Sook-ja, secretary general of the Yeongwol-gun Sports Association, and Hong Jong-cheol, secretary general of the Taebaek City Wrestling Sports Club, were on the list of winners.

Governor Kim Jin-tae said, “We have steadily increased the budget for sports by about 30% to 50%,” and said, “Everyone has worked really hard this year. I think Gangwon sports will do great next year as well.”

Yang Hee-gu, president of the Provincial Sports Council, said, “Thanks to the full support and support of everyone here, we were able to place 6th overall in the 106th National Sports Festival,” and promised, “We will continue to work and research to ensure that the leap forward history of Gangwon sports does not go backwards.”
