Galatasaray Signs Gigi Pozzecco – MCT Technic Deal

Our Galatasaray MCT Technic Men’s Basketball Team has signed a contract valid until the end of the 2026/27 season with Gianmarco Pozzecco, one of the important figures of European basketball with his coaching experience at club and national team levels.

We wish success to our new head coach Gianmarco Pozzecco in his new position, which he will start on January 5, 2026, and welcome him to the Galatasaray family.

Born on September 15, 1972, Gianmarco Pozzecco is one of the most iconic names of Italian basketball, both as a player and coach. Pozzecco, who played for clubs such as Varese, Fortitudo Bologna and Khimki during his playing career in which he served as a playmaker, also played with the Italian National Team in the European Championships and the 2004 Athens Olympics. In his club career, he won Italian Serie A championships and EuroLeague finals.

Pozzecco, who stepped into coaching after his active basketball career, won the FIBA Europe Cup championship with Sassari in 2019 and was selected as the 2019 FIBA Europe Cup Coach of the Year. After his outstanding performance with Sassari, Pozzecco worked in important European clubs such as Milan, ASVEL and Cedevita, and represented his country on the EuroBasket and World Cup stage as the head coach of the Italian National Team between 2022 and 2025.
