“The reactions were great. Ondra Penxa and I found out in the room when we were in Malta. We were both there in the nomination, so we were very pleased. I take it as a beautiful reward for the whole past year.”
What do you think is behind the fact that your name appeared in the nomination?
“I think the main reason is that I played the whole season without a significant injury. I managed to get a chance in the B team in the spring, where I settled in the lineup. The chance in the A team was a huge experience and I hope there will be more opportunities like that. If I had to point out one thing, it would be consistency of performances.”
What is your outlook for the upcoming phase of the season?
“I would like to improve in personal battles and overall game maturity. My goal is to establish myself in adult football and collect more league starts. As for the national team, there the goal is clear – to advance to the EURO.”
Ondřej Penxa: I proved that I have not forgotten football
The second nominee is offensive all-rounder Ondřej Penxa. His path to the nomination was significantly more thorny – he had to deal with a serious knee injury that sidelined him for many months.
Ondro, how did you react to the news of the nomination?
“Of course I was happy. For me personally, after a very demanding season, this is the icing on the cake and a huge reward.”

You mentioned a challenging year. How would you rate it?
“Last year at the end of November I had an injury, I tore my cruciate ligament. That put me out of the game for about nine months. It was eight months of hard work to even get back on the pitch. But I think I got on well. I played eight games in the second league, got an invitation to the national team and then a move to Sparta’s A team. From the club side, it’s great for me.”
What have you changed the most during this difficult year?
“The period after the injury gave me the most. Having such a long break is probably the hardest thing in a football player’s career, so I think I’ve improved a lot mentally. And game-wise? The first minutes after coming back were great, and when I managed to score a goal in the third or fourth game, it gave me a lot of confidence.”
With what goal are you entering 2026?
“I would like to be involved in the A team squad as much as possible and get more space. I will be preparing for this right from the beginning of January. And from a representative point of view, I want to help the team at the U19 EURO, where we have not been for a long time.”
Jiří Maxim Panoš: Every big match pushes me
Jiří Maxim Panoš, a jewel from Pilsen, is the third in the party. Despite his age, he is already collecting starts on the European stage, although the fall was complicated by health problems.
Jiří, what does the nomination for the Gala Evening mean to you?
“Of course I was pleased and I appreciate this nomination very much. It is a recognition of my year-long work.”

How would you evaluate the past year in the club and the national team?
“From the club’s point of view, the year 2025 was certainly successful. We once again experienced beautiful moments in the Europa League and the domestic competition last season was successful. In the autumn, we imagined the results to be a little better, but we will definitely want to improve it in the spring. I personally was limited by health problems in the autumn, but that is in the past, now I am only looking forward.”
What do you consider to be your biggest shift this year?
“For me, every big match is a huge experience that pushes me forward both physically and mentally. I try to give my all in every training because I believe it always pays off.”
What would you like to accomplish in the coming year?
“We have big goals ahead of us as a team, and I want to do my best to personally contribute to their fulfillment. However, the basis will be hard work, without which it is not possible. We have a fight for promotion in the Europa League, we want to be as high as possible in the table of the domestic competition, and we also have ambitions in the cup.”
