The Stade Malherbe de Caen wants to regain its former glory. Stuck in the soft underbelly of the National a few months after its relegation, the Norman club is struggling to launch a positive spiral to return to Ligue 2. With four victories in 20 matches and a 10th place, the results of Kylian Mbappé’s club are negative. Coach Maxime d’Ornano was therefore fired.
This Monday, Caen announced the name of his replacement: Gaël Clichy. “A former French international, he will bring to the club his very high level experience, his knowledge of modern football and his daily demands,” rejoiced Stade Malherbe in a press release.
Assistant to Thierry Henry at the Paris Olympics
Professional until 2023, the former left-back launched his coaching career as an assistant to the French youth team alongside Thierry Henry. He notably participated in the Bleuets’ Olympic campaign, winning a silver medal in Paris. He left his post last July with the idea of starting out as head coach.
