Fuegian Archery Success: Records & Highlights

With two medals, several fourth places and the majority of competitors classified for the eliminatory stage, the Fuegian delegation made up of competitors from the Fuegian Archery Group and the El Palomar – Uyana Jacu Club, completed a very worthy performance against the national elite.

The massive tournament brought together more than 250 competitors from all over Argentina and for the Fuegian delegation made up of archers from the Fuegian Archery Association (AFTA) and the Club El Palomar – Uyana Jacu, the balance was extremely positive: two medals – one gold and one bronze – and the classification to the eliminatory stage of the majority of the competitors in the province, which solidifies the present and sows certain hopes for the future of said sporting activity. in the province.

In addition to competitive activity, the Fuegians occupied other predominant roles during the three days of competition. Susana Águila, AFTA coach, was also captain of the Patagonia Zone team and Claudio Poeta, regional judge representing the El Palomar – Uyana Jacu Club, was the only representative of the province among the more than 12 judges who came from various parts of the country to dispense justice at the crowded event.

In the WA Senior Men’s Olympic Recurve category, Christian Bisso (Club El Palomar – Uyana Jacu) qualified in 19th place with a total of 531 points (275/256), thus achieving his second best mark of the year. On Sunday, in the playoffs, they lost in the round of 32 against Iván Bascary from Rioja 6-0.

Due to his position in the classification, Bisso also agreed to compete on Sunday in mixed teams. There she formed a duo with Wanda Arca from Neuquén, with whom she finished in fourth place after falling in the dispute for the bronze medal against the Zona Norte team 5-1.

In the Recurve WA Men’s +50 division, Víctor Bibé (Club El Palomar – Uyana Jacu) finished the classification in 3rd place with 600 points (316/284). Likewise, Juan Bauer (Club El Palomar – Uyana Jacu) finished in 21st place with 524 points (265/259) and Gustavo Elsztein (Club El Palomar – Uyana Jacu) finished in 28th place by accumulating 337 points (205/132).

In this way, Bibé was the only one qualified for the qualifying round the next day. The South American champion was eliminated in the quarterfinals, where he was defeated by Juan Álvarez from Rioja by a narrow 7-5.

For his part, in the Men’s Composite +50, Jorge Ramírez (Club El Palomar – Uyana Jacu) finished Saturday’s day in 5th place after accumulating 610 points (311/299). On Sunday, already in the quarterfinals, he prevailed against Douglas Sarmiento Oberti from Buenos Aires by 130-121 and in the semifinal he beat Walter Sabado from Rio Negro by a narrow 131-128. In the gold medal game, he was finally defeated by Carlos Mejuto from Buenos Aires by 135-132.

Likewise, in the WA Men’s U-18 Recurve category, Renzo Monchietti Águila (AFTA) concluded the qualifying stage in 8th place with 498 points (249/249).
