Freystadt’s Wulandoko: Rising National Star

– TSV Freystadt players win gold and silver at the U17 and U19 DM.

The German Badminton Championships for the U15 to U19 age groups took place in Hoyerswerda (Saxony). The best 24 players in each year qualified in singles, the best 16 in doubles and mixed via the German rankings. The participants included three players from TSV Freystadt: Elisa Herrler, Silke Mader and Aurelia Wulandoko.

Aurelia Wulandoko won a gold medal in the women’s doubles in the U19 age group. She also received silver in mixed doubles in the same age group. Silke Mader won silver in the women’s doubles in the U17 age group. The German Badminton Association also named Wulandoko as the best young German player of 2025. Wulandoko had moved from the state base in Nuremberg to the federal base in Mühlheim.

The 19-year-old started her last youth tournament as the two-time defending champion. In the mixed doubles she was ranked first together with her Hessian partner Philipp Zhang. The duo reached the final without losing a set, but narrowly lost 19:21 and 19:21. In the women’s doubles, Wulandoko played alongside Berliner Eva Stommel. In the exciting final they won against their opponents with 21:19 and 22:20. Both secured the gold medal in this prestigious discipline and crowned their successful season.

Silke Mader competed in the U17 age group in mixed doubles and doubles. In the mixed doubles, she was eliminated in the quarterfinals together with Luan Wolber and took fifth place. In doubles she formed a successful team with Matilda Meinhardt from SG Empor Brandenburg. Both reached the semi-finals, which they won comfortably in two sets. In the final, Mader and Meinhardt met Sarah Nickel, who plays for Hesse, and Alexia Nedelcu. The decision in both sets was only made in the nerve-wracking extra time. Nickel and Nedelcu ultimately won 24:22 and 22:20. Mader received the silver medal he deserved.

14-year-old Elisa Herrler is gaining her first experience at the German Badminton Championships

Elisa Herrler qualified for the German championships with third place at the Southeast German championships. The 14-year-old was eliminated in the first round. For her it was her first participation in German championships and therefore a valuable experience for the future. The championships are considered the highlight of the season for young players in German badminton. In the various age groups, the best German young talents fought for the coveted titles in singles, doubles and mixed.
