Freystadt: League Leaders at Mid-Season

There is currently a tight neck-and-neck race at the top of the 2nd Badminton Bundesliga South. At the end of the year, TSV Freystadt absolutely needed two home wins in order to be able to enjoy the peaceful Christmas break as league leaders. Freystadt’s badminton cracks withstood the pressure and delivered impressively.

In the WGG hall in Neumarkt, the Upper Palatinate’s current adopted home, the first game was against TSV Neuhausen-Nymphenburg on Saturday. The Munich team, who are in the middle of the table, made things anything but easy for the hosts. However, in the crucial moments – twice the deciding set went into the deciding set, Freystadt celebrated twice – the favorite showed his class.

Tension until the last rally

The first men’s doubles was already tough: Viktor Petrovic and Andreas Pistorius were behind twice against Justin Seibel and Andree Gustav (10:12, 11:9, 4:11, 11:7) before they gained the momentum in the fifth set (11:7). The second men’s doubles was even more dramatic: Auditya Hidayat and Moritz Miller fought a thrilling match with Philip Bußler and Patrick Biechl until the last rally. The fifth set also went to the home team with a score of 13:11. Petrovic, Ella Neve and Hidayat contributed the further points to the 5:2 success in the individual cases.

Freystadt made short work of Sunday’s opponent TuS Geretsried, also located in the middle of the table. Petrovic/Pistorius, Hidayat/Miller and Aurelia Wulandoko/Katharina Rudert ensured a reassuring 3-0 lead in the doubles. Petrovic lost the first men’s singles, but Neve, Miller and the mixed doubles Hidayat/Wulandoko made everything clear. In the end there was a clear 6:1 win.

As autumn champions on break

This means that TSV Freystadt ends the first half of the season as league leaders in the 2nd Bundesliga South. The lead over second-placed SV Fun-Ball Dortweilweil II is two points. During the Christmas break, the team can now recharge their batteries for the second half of the season, which begins on January 17, 2026.
