Starting at the start of the school year, Sport en français plans to offer a multitude of sporting activities in French for children, but also adults. The objective is clear: to get the whole family moving.
“We pushed things really far,” says Lyes Mahdi Aknouche, program officer within the organization.
Despite difficult organization due to limited slots in arenas, skating workshops for children and adults will be offered. In addition, archery is one of the big news for this year 2026. It will have required collaboration with Archery Manitoba. Open to children and adults, archery will also be set up in rural areas. “This is work that we have been trying to put in place for a very long time. We preferred to postpone the training offer in order to be sure to be able to offer it in French. »
The most popular sports such as soccer, basketball and cheerleading will therefore make a return, but some new things will also be added to the program, such as Taekwondo. Tested for the first time this fall, the discipline exceeded expectations.
“For the year 2026, we opened a second group for toddlers, aged three to five. It fills up very quickly, there isn’t much room left. »
Lyes Mahdi Aknouch indicates that this is the program that filled up the fastest. “A nice surprise for us, we didn’t expect it. »
Return of popular programs
Sport en français is also returning to programs aimed at girls. Namely basketball at the Notre-Dame center and fencing at Sport Manitoba. “Aside from children, we noted that there was also a certain demand for programming for adults. »
To respond to this, several activities have also been put in place, without it being a sport or a very specific discipline, “it’s really about getting parents moving with their children”.
So adult programs like yoga or dynamic club fall at the same time as children’s programs for logistical and organizational reasons.
Registrations have been open since mid-November and the entire program is available online on the website. the organization here
