French Football Round-Up: Upsets & Playoff Drama

A very lively first evening! This Friday, December 19 effectively marked the start of the 32nd finals of the Coupe de France. On this occasion, six matches were played simultaneously. With a match which ended in a goalless draw, and therefore towards penalties. Namely the move from Angers (L1) to Herbiers (N2). The SCO failed to find the net against ten Vendée players. As soon as he returned from the locker room, Benjamin Brélivet was actually sent off for the VHF, who therefore tried to achieve the first feat of this round. Missed, since the Angevins won by a score of six shots on goal to five.

The honor goes to the US Avranches MSM. In numerical superiority since the 21st minute of play and the expulsion of Julien Le Cardinal, the Manche club was unable to maintain its lead against Stade Brestois. On the free kick, Nassim Sabihi gave us an exceptional first goal. About ten minutes later, the Ligue 1 club came back with a wonderful acrobatic gesture from Rémy Labeau-Lascary. Also heading to the penalty shootout, which ended in a victory with a score of five shots on goal to four!

Le Mans and Montpellier suffered

Traveling to Croix (N3), Reims (L2) largely won with a score of four goals to zero and logically qualified for the round of 16 of this Coupe de France. Note the red card for Hugo Robert, the captain of the ICCF, who will marry his beloved tomorrow for the most beautiful weekend of his life despite the heavy defeat. Montpellier (L2) did not have as quiet an evening as its opponent in the championship. The Paillade club won by the smallest of margins against Canet-Roussillon (N3) thanks to Victor Orakpo at the very end of the match (76th).

Just like Le Mans (L2) against one of the Little Thumbs, FC Périgny. The Le Mans club opened the scoring in the eighth minute of play with Taylor Luvambo with an impressive acceleration. Just before half-time, the Regional 1 resident obtained a penalty and came back to the level thanks to his captain Romain Rousseau. With forceps the Sang et Or will regain a definitive advantage in the 72nd minute of play through Milan Robin. Finally, the 100% Ligue 2 clash between Guingamp and Laval produced the only goal on the very last opportunity of the game and an achievement from Malik Sellouki. Without further ado, discover the results of Friday’s matches counting for the 32nd finals of the Coupe de France.
