Frankfurt Women’s Night Taxi: Vouchers Available

Women and girls aged 14 and over from Frankfurt can now take taxis at reduced prices in the late evenings and at night. “Women’s Night Taxi” is the name of the new service, which is intended to help make nighttime journeys safer and to sustainably increase the feeling of security in public spaces, as the women’s department says.

Especially around Christmas and the turn of the year, the taxi service ensures “that women get home safely, easily and with a good feeling,” says Tina Zapf-Rodríguez (The Greens), head of the women’s department.

Offer only applies to Frankfurt residents

The subsidy in the form of a voucher for 6 euros, which turns every available taxi into a “women’s night taxi”, can be used daily from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. within the city limits of Frankfurt. To do this, the women and girls must first pick up the vouchers at the “Island for Climate and Sustainability” at the Hauptwache. From January 5th, the vouchers will also be available to order by email. Six coupons are issued to an eligible person per calendar year.

All girls and women aged 14 and over who are registered in Frankfurt are eligible, according to a spokeswoman for the department. The offer also applies to trans women. Only one voucher can be redeemed per trip, even if there are several authorized people in the taxi. According to the city, only trips without a male companion over the age of 14 are subsidized.

The vouchers can only be redeemed with taxis that are affiliated with the taxi headquarters. Because the women’s department expects that there will still be uncertainties among taxi drivers at the beginning of the pilot project, the department recommends specifying that a voucher should be redeemed when ordering the taxi.

It is unclear whether the offer will be expanded to other companies such as Uber or Bolt, said a spokeswoman for the women’s department. First of all, we want to see how the project develops. But it is also about supporting companies based in the city and strengthening their own structures.
