AMSTERDAM – Dutch football player Quincy Promes wants to return to professional football after returning from prison.

He is currently still in custody awaiting an appeal hearing scheduled for September 2026. The court has previously denied his early release once.

The 33-year-old striker is asking to be released so he can take care of his five minor children. “When I am released, I will train very hard to get back in shape. If I am in good shape, there will definitely be interest in me. I am almost certain that I will find a club. It is no longer about my football career, it is simply about financial help.” the newspaper De Telegraaf quoted Promes.

Last February, the 50-time representative of the Netherlands was sent to prison for six years by the Amsterdam District Court for cocaine trafficking. In the past, he was already sentenced to 18 months in prison for stabbing his cousin in the leg with a knife at a family party in 2020.

Promes is a member of the football academy of Ajax Amsterdam. During his career in the Dutch Eredivisie, he also wore the jerseys of Twente Enschede and Go Ahead Eagles. He worked abroad in Russia and also in the Spanish FC Sevilla team.
