Sport in the USA is not just about sporting competition. Above all, it is a big show. No matter whether it is NFL football games or NBA basketball games. In addition to the sporting performance, a certain entertainment aspect is always and everywhere considered. The highlight of the NFL is the halftime show during the Super Bowl.
That’s why it’s not surprising that new, strange stories are constantly being revealed about the players, franchises and leagues. Sebastian Vollmer, two-time Super Bowl winner with the New England Patriots, has now told one of these stories in the Watson podcast “Touchdown & Tacheles”.
New England Patriots: Cult coach Belichick appeared in roller skates
In the current Christmas special of the podcast, Vollmer had to classify some anecdotes as “fact or fiction”. Including one from a Halloween party in 2009, his rookie year with the New England Patriots.
You can hear these and other incredible anecdotes in the current Christmas episode of “Touchdown & Tacheles – watson’s NFL podcast”. There are also numerous prizes waiting again.
Podcast host Lukas Grybowski began the anecdote with the fact that longtime Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was a “huge Halloween fan.” That’s why he showed up at the said party in a pirate costume in the roller skating hall where the party was held and went for a few laps with his wife. “He had the time of his life,” at least that was Grybowski’s description.
New England Patriots: Pro Bowler crashes at Halloween party
Vollmer and the second podcast host, Dommi Wildegans, were supposed to assess the story. Since Vollmer himself was part of the roster, this task was easy for him. The short answer is: yes, the story is true. “I was there,” Vollmer begins, “he was a hot pirate in full gear and looked like he was in Pirates of the Caribbean.”

As plain and simple as this answer was, it became spectacular afterwards. Vollmer concluded the answer with a skilful transition: “The better story would actually have been that of a player.” What’s next? The two podcast hosts probably also asked themselves. Then it became very detailed.
“I think it (the Halloween party, editor) was on a Thursday, the next game was on Sunday. This player was so drunk that he was lying down with his roller skates every 30 seconds. Really full on his face and nose,” said Vollmer of his former teammate’s drunken escalation.
The 41-year-old didn’t want to say which former professional it was, but said nonetheless: “It was a multiple Pro Bowler.” And there was another hint that the player was wearing swimming trunks: “Roller skates and swimming trunks. But Speedo, so real swimming trunks.”
Over the years, Vollmer has forgotten whether there was any trouble for the incident. But he knows what he did at the Halloween party: “I was an O-Liner, I ate my chicken wings and ran around the track three times. I was still new there. I was on the team for three months, so you’re not the type of person who arrives with a twelve-pack of beer.”
