KRC Genk is looking for a successor to Thorsten Fink. If possible a coach with experience in the Belgian championship.
The poor results of KRC Genk cost Thorsten Fink his place, and unlike Bruges – who directly brought Ivan Leko to Jan Breydel – and Ghent – who picked up Rik De Mil from Charleroi – the Limburg club is still looking for a successor.
Several names have already been mentioned, including that of… Nicky Hayen. One of the main criteria for a change of coach during the season is of course that the newcomer knows the Belgian championship like the back of his hand.
Hoefkens returning to Belgium through the front door?
Timmy Simons was also mentioned but according to The Latest Newsanother Belgian coach is also on the Genk list: Carl Hoefkens. Unlike the two aforementioned coaches, Hoefkens is based at NAC Breda.
Carl Hoefkens is also a former coach of Club Brugge, like Nicky Hayen – and like the latter, his dismissal was considered very hasty by observers at the time. A veritable host of coaches then took turns on the Club bench, until management opted for Hayen.
Hoefkens was also the coach of Standard from July to December 2023. Things had gone badly for him at Sclessin, and he could therefore make his return to Belgium through the front door. At the NAC, after a promising first season, Hoefkens is struggling this season, but he is still under contract until 2027.
