PEC Zwolle striker Koen Kostons does not want to see his current club as a final destination, the goalscorer said in an interview with De Limburger. The Dutch-Belgian striker signed a four-year contract with PEC this summer and is one of the absolute standouts this season.
“This was always my dream. To play in the Premier League,” begins 26-year-old Kostons. His grandfather Huub played a major role in his football career, who was able to see his grandson sign a contract with MVV. He died a year later. “It was so nice that my grandfather could be there. And I can still see him sitting in the stands with my grandmother in De Geusselt, with a blanket.”
The striker is now having an excellent season in Zwolle. The counter already stands at eight goals in the Eredivisie and Kostons has also scored a goal in the KNVB Cup. The striker points out the reason for his success. “I have always had stable people around me and I think that allows me to function well. It is difficult to develop when there is unrest. Of course you have to do a lot yourself, because others cannot score for you.”
Kostons still has a contract in Zwolle until the summer of 2029 and is currently feeling happy. Yet the attacker remains very ambitious. “I am now playing in the Premier League, which is what I have always dreamed of. But I do not want to see Zwolle as the final destination. If that step does not come and I stay at PEC, that is fine too, because this is a very nice club. But I am going for the highest achievable.”
