Eisenstadt Sports Field: Project Kickoff

Sport

The SC Eisenstadt 1907 football club has been an integral part of Burgenland’s football championship operations for eight years. However, so far without its own sports facility – now a first step has been taken towards a possible own sports field.

So far, the club has always played its games as a guest at different sports facilities, since 2020 on the lawn of the athletics facility in Eisenstadt. Now the Eisenstadt local council unanimously decided on Tuesday to rezone a property for the construction of a sports facility. The area is located in the Wiesäcker area near the Mattersburger Straße exit. This is an important step, because without land it is not possible to build a sports field, according to Mayor Thomas Steiner (ÖVP). “This means that the basic requirements are always met and fulfilled by the city.”

Difficult financing

Now it’s the club’s turn. The feasibility of the construction has already been examined, the club said. The biggest problem, however, is financing. According to chairman Thomas Kornfeind, they would like to have another conversation with the state of Burgenland in January. However, tight budgets make financing difficult. The city of Eisenstadt has a pragmatic approach to this. If implementation is possible, the city will contribute according to its budgetary resources, said Steiner. For the time being, SC Eisenstadt 1907 continues to play with the combat team at the athletics facility, with the youth teams and a total of 90 children in the surrounding communities.
