Beckett Sennecke found the back of the net with one second left in the third period and Leo Carlsson was the only scorer in a shootout to allow the Anaheim Ducks to defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-3 on Tuesday night.

With 18 seconds left in the third period, Ducks forward Chris Kreider was punished for hooking Danton Heinen, which seemed to confirm a 3-2 victory for the Penguins, but Sennecke grabbed the puck after the faceoff and made Bryan Rust, Kristopher Letang and goaltender Arturs Silovs look bad to tie the game.
Sennecke, who also had an assist on Jackson LaCombe’s goal, sits at the top of the National Hockey League rookie scoring charts with 26 points in 30 games.
Troy Terry also scored for the Ducks, who won their third straight game. Ville Husso did well in front of his team’s net, with 46 saves.
Noel Acciari, Tommy Novak and Anthony Mantha responded for the Penguins, who lost for the second time in three days in a shootout.
Erik Karlsson had two goals and Silovs stopped 25 shots in the loss.
Sharks 1 – Flyers 4

Travis Konecny and récolté son 500e point in the NHL and Dan Vladar stopped 17 pucks to lead the Philadelphia Flyers to a 4-1 victory over the San Jose Sharks.
Final and achieved dream of 500e point by clearing the puck with the backhand in the neutral zone. Christian Dvorak recovered it and easily scored with 1:21 left in the first period. He then scored into an empty net late in the match.
Carl Grundstrom, recently recalled from the Lehigh Valley Flyers to replace the injured Tyson Foerster, scored his first goal of the campaign in the second period.
Noah Cates also moved the strings for the Flyers, who have won five of their last seven duels.
Nedeljkovic, author of 26 saves, was in goal due to Yaroslav Askarov’s illness. The latter was supposed to at least be the backup goalkeeper on Tuesday, but he was ultimately removed from the lineup at the last minute.
So the Sharks hired Justin Kowalkoski, a 39-year-old geologist who had retired from hockey for 17 years at Colgate University, for one game as an emergency backup goalie.
Blue Jackets 1 – Hurricanes 4

Eric Robinson ended a 10-game goalless drought by breaking a tie in the third period, and the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Buffalo Sabers 4-1.
Seth Jarvis, Jordan Staal and Jordan Martinook also scored for the Hurricanes, while Andrei Svechnikov collected two assists.
Brandon Bussi made 23 saves, improving his record to 9-1-0 with the Hurricanes, who finished their home series with a 4-3-0 record. Bussi is the only Hurricanes goaltender to have a victory since November 17.
Dmitri Voronkov scored on a power play in the first period for the Blue Jackets, who suffered back-to-back losses in regulation for the first time in more than a month. Jet Greaves stopped 27 shots.
Golden Knights 4 – Islanders 5 (TB)

Emil Heineman ended the debate in the fourth round of the shootout and the New York Islanders defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 5-4.
Ilya Sorokin made 33 saves in regulation before being perfect against four Golden Knights players in a shootout.
Bo Horvat scored two goals, while Marc Gatcomb and Simon Holmstrom added one each for the New Yorkers, who are 5-0 this season against Pacific Division opponents.
Pavel Dorofeyev tied the game with 14 seconds remaining in the third period. Heineman then scored the only goal of the shootout by beating Carter Hart under the glove.
Ivan Barbashev, Mitch Marner and Noah Hanifin scored for the Golden Knights, who saw their winning streak end at four.
Hart finished the game with 23 saves and suffered his first loss in three starts since returning to the NHL.
Bruins 5 – Blues 2

Mark Kastelic and Fraser Minten each scored two goals and the Boston Bruins came from behind to defeat the St. Louis Blues 5-2.
Pavel Zacha scored into an empty net, while David Pastrnak had two assists in his first game since Nov. 16, after missing five games with an undisclosed injury.
Sean Kuraly also had two assists for the Bruins, who won their third straight game and their second against the Blues in the last five days.
Jeremy Swayman made 24 saves in the victory.
Robert Thomas scored twice and Joel Hofer stopped 26 shots for the Blues, who saw their short two-game winning streak snapped.
Stars 4 – Jets 3

Jason Robertson scored the eventual game-winning goal and the Dallas Stars defeated the Winnipeg Jets 4-3.
Robertson scored his 19e net of the campaign, helping the Stars extend their streak of games with at least one point to 11 (9-0-2).
Esa Lindell, Roope Hintz and Alexander Petrovic also moved the ropes for the Texan team. Mikko Rantanen had three assists while Wyatt Johnston had two.
Casey DeSmith stopped 30 shots in his team’s victory. He has only lost one match in regulation this season (7-1-3).
Mark Scheifele, on two occasions, and Logan Stanley found the back of the net for the Jets. Kyle Connor had a hand in two goals.
Eric Comrie turned away 15 pucks in front of the Jets cage, who have won only two of their last 10 outings (2-7-1).
Sabres 4 – Oilers 3 (P)

Alex Tuch scored 33 seconds into overtime to help the Buffalo Sabers escape Edmonton with a 4-3 victory over the Oilers.
Josh Doan scored twice and Tage Thompson had three points, including a goal, for the Sabres, who ended a three-game losing streak. Rasmus Dahlin collected three assists.
Colten Ellis stopped all six shots aimed at him before leaving the game at the end of the first period due to an injury. He was replaced by Alex Lyon, who made 21 saves for the Sabres.
Oilers captain Connor McDavid scored two goals, including one with two seconds remaining in the third period to force an overtime period.
Vasily Podkolzin also found the back of the net for the Oilers, whose short two-game winning streak ended. Stuart Skinner made 24 saves.
Avalanche 3 – Predators 4 (shootout)
Ryan O’Reilly scored the only goal in the shootout to give the Nashville Predators a 4-3 victory over the Colorado Avalanche.
Jonathan Marchessault, Reid Schaefer and Brady Skjei lit the red light in regulation for the Predators, who have won five of their last seven meetings.
Juuse Saros had a good night of work in front of the Predators net, stopping 39 of the 42 shots aimed at him in addition to stopping all three Avalanche players in a shootout.
Brock Nelson, Artturi Lehkonen and Cale Makar responded for the Avalanche, who have lost just one game in regulation since October 25.
Martin Necas and Nathan MacKinnon each had two assists, while Scott Wedgewood made 25 saves in the loss.
