Djokovic Wins Ronaldo’s New Awards | First Recipient

Cristiano Ronaldo announced this Sunday the launch of the Globe Sports Award (GSA), a new international trophy created to annually recognize the most influential athletes in the world of sport. AND Novak Djokovic, no less, was the first winner.

The award seeks to “celebrate excellence in various sports disciplines” and will distinguish athletes and institutions that have marked an era and dominated their sport, inspiring the world beyond competitive performance, the award’s communication agency reported in a statement.

The award is based on the Globe Soccer Award, whose awards gala was held this Sunday, but will go “beyond football” and each year it will recognize athletes who “can redefine sport on a global scale”, being first winner Novak Djokovic, whose achievements and influence “exemplify the trophy’s founding principles,” in the words of the organization.

The trophy that Djokovic will receive is a sculpture of suspended time, designed in Portugal, which is inspired by an hourglass, although each year it will have its own finish that will reflect the uniqueness of the award-winning athlete.

For the Portuguese soccer star, who received the award for best player in the Middle East this Sunday at the ‘Globe Soccer Awards 2025’, this new award “exists to pay tribute to those moments in which the athlete’s greatness makes time stop.”
