Diogo Ferreira Portimonense Exit: Psychological Distress Claimed

Player maintains that they abandoned him and requested legal support to claim what is owed to him

Midfielder Diogo Ferreira, who was contractually linked to Portimonense until 2028, unilaterally terminated his contract with the Black and Whites. Used 15 times in the main team last season, the 21-year-old player did not play any games this season and was away from the group.

At the time of farewell, Diogo Ferreira, with spells at Vitória de Setúbal, Amora and Benfica in training, before arriving at Portimonense, did not hold back in his criticism, in a message posted on social media.

“I was prevented from training, playing or simply helping and I was forced to unilaterally terminate an employment contract,” said the player, adding: “I had to resort to psychological help to withstand, for months, the pressure and moral coercion and I was forced to resort to legal support to claim what was owed to me (and which still is). I felt truly abandoned, even by those who contractually should have supported and defended me.”

“I would like to have continued to fight for the club and the region, to have contributed something to the joy of all those who love the club in their region. I leave sad for the fans, for the history of the club, and for all those who seek to elevate the name of the city of Portimão and its main club. It was in Portimão that I made my debut in professional competitions, and at 19 years old. Portimão and Portimonense will remain part of my life, but only for the good memories. But, these will help me grow as a person and as a football professional. Everything else, life will take care of putting everything back in its rightful place”, said Diogo Ferreira, who promises to return “stronger and more determined”.
