Memphis Depay has reached the final of the Brazilian cup tournament with his club Corinthians. After winning the first leg (0-1) thanks to a Depay goal, Corinthians lost the return match against Cruzeiro (1-2) but then won via penalties: 5-4.

The final against Vasco da Gama also involves two matches, which will be played next Wednesday and Sunday.

Corinthians had a hard time in their own stadium against Cruzeiro, for whom Keny Arroyo scored twice. Arroyo came in for the injured Luis Sinisterra (ex-Feyenoord) and thought he could shoot his team to the final.

After Matheus Bidu’s goal, everything was in balance again in two games and penalties had to provide a solution.

Corinthians-doelman Hugo Souza

Depay converted the second penalty for Corinthians, after teammate Yuri Alberto had missed the first.

Hugo Souza then saved two Cruzeiro penalties and was the celebrated man at the club that won the Copa do Brasil three times.

Depay has scored eleven goals and ten assists in 49 games for Corinthians so far this season. The team of the Dutch team’s all-time top scorer finished thirteenth in the Brazilian competition.
