During the holidays, Arne Slot reflects on the death of Diogo Jota. Liverpool will take on Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League next Saturday. A match between the two English clubs where Jota was under contract.
“The ability to be a unit has been one of our most important qualities in a year that has had both highs and lows,” Slot writes in the run-up to the last match of 2025 on the the channel from Liverpool. ‘Looking back on everything that has happened over the past twelve months evokes a rollercoaster of emotions. But it’s the time of year to look back.’
“This makes me think especially of Diogo Jota’s family, who have to celebrate Christmas without him for the first time,” Slot continues in his letter, addressed to Liverpool supporters. ‘It is not my place to tell them where to look for comfort – if that is even possible. I can only hope that the love that Diogo still evokes brings them some comfort.”
Slot realizes that the loss of Jota on Saturday evokes extra emotions. ‘As it is the first time Diogo’s two England teams have met since his tragic death. Like us, Wolves were clearly very devastated by the loss of such a special player and person, so my thoughts are with them too.”
