Ten months after Mike James, Nando De Colo on Wednesday became the second player in history to reach 5,000 points scored in the Euroleague.
On February 5, Mike James became the first player in history to reach the 5,000 points mark in the Euroleague. Ten months later, another Betclic Elite player joined him in this very closed circle, and it is Nando De Colo. During ASVEL’s 76-74 victory over Bayern Munich, the 38-year-old guard scored 8 points, to bring his total to 5,004 in Europe’s biggest competition. The former French international, however, was only able to play 8 minutes before getting injured, and he did not play in the second half. “He doesn’t get older, he gets better,” the Euroleague wrote to congratulate the player in a tweet.
De Colo won the Euroleague twice
Nando De Colo wrote a new page in his legend in the Euroleague on Wednesday, a competition he has played in since 2010, and which he won in 2016 and 2019 with CSKA Moscow. It was with Valencia that the Northerner made his debut in the competition. He then scored 191 points in the Euroleague with the Spanish club. Then leaving for the NBA, he returned to Europe in 2014, to CSKA where he had his greatest moments: 2,496 points scored in 149 games, over five seasons. Nando De Colo then signed for Fenerbahce, where he scored 1138 points in 77 matches from 2019 to 2022, before joining ASVEL, where his tally to date is 1179 points in 93 matches.
James’ record not close to being broken
Mike James, three years De Colo’s junior, has scored 5,548 points in the Euroleague (a competition he has never won) and should take this record even higher, he who is under contract until June 2027 with AS Monaco. His record doesn’t seem ready to be broken any time soon. Third place in the ranking of best scorers is also occupied by his coach, Vassilis Spanoulis (4455pts), who is ahead of Real Madrid player Sergio Llull (38 years old, 4255pts) and James’ teammate, Nikola Mirotic (34 years old, 4241pts). Apart from Nando De Colo, no French player is part of the Top 20.
