The first weekend of December is upon us, and with it comes Week 14 of the NFL season. Players injured earlier in the season are working to come back and earn meaningful reps down the stretch with their teams, while others can’t seem to shake the injury bug. Here’s the status on some of the biggest stars in the sport dealing with injuries entering this weekend’s NFL action.
Jayden Daniels, QB, Washington Commanders – Expected To Play
After dislocating his elbow in Week 9, Daniels finally seems to be in the clear for the Commanders. He was a full practice participant on Thursday for the first time since his injury, and has officially been cleared for contact.
Rome Odunze, WR, Chicago Bears – Out
The Bears haven’t been known for their passing offense this season, but wideout Rome Odunze has been the top target when the Bears have to move the ball through the air, hauling in 44 catches for 661 yards and six touchdowns. He has been dealing with heel pain, but has yet to miss a game. That will change this week against Green Bay, as Odunze missed practice all week with a foot injury and will not be available for the Bears-Packers clash.
Justin Herbert, QB, Los Angeles Chargers – Expected To Play
Herbert underwent surgery just earlier this week for a fractured left hand, but is reportedly still preparing to play against the Eagles on Monday Night Football. Herbert was limited in practice both Thursday and Friday, but Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh is expecting Herbert to suit up per usual. Herbert disclosed on Thursday that doctors inserted a plate and screws into his hand to stabilize it, and that he will likely be in a hard cast during Monday’s game.
Mike Evans, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Out
Since breaking his clavicle on October 22, Evans has been out of action. This week, he was designated to return from injured reserve, and his 21-day practice window opened, but head coach Todd Bowles made it clear he will not return this weekend. Evans’ absence could bring his 11-season streak of 1,000-or-more receiving yards to an end.
Tee Higgins, WR, Cincinnati Bengals – Expected To Play
After missing the Bengals’ last game with a concussion, Higgins was a full participant in practice on Thursday and has officially been cleared of concussion protocol entering Week 14
Sauce Gardner, CB, Indianapolis Colts – Out
After Gardner was seen on crutches and donning a walking boot following last week’s loss to the Texansthe good news for fans of the Colts is that his injury isn’t quite as severe as initially expected. The bad news, however, is that he will be unavailable against the Jaguars this week.
