There are three weeks left until the end of 2025 and little by little the Boca leadership begins to diagram next year’s squad, thinking about the Copa Libertadores. In this sense, there are 17 players who will return from their respective loans on December 31 and could be evaluated during the preseason, although a priori none of them would be taken into consideration.
Marcelo Wegand: At 25 years old, Chelo is on loan at Inter Miami, a club with which he played in the Club World Cup and recently became MLS champion. Since his arrival at the beginning of last year, he played 71 games, scored two goals and distributed six assists with the Garzas shirt and, beyond the fact that he is not an undisputed starter, he is an important piece for Javier Mascherano. His contract with Boca expires in December 2027.
Jabes Saralegui: The 22-year-old midfielder debuted during Jorge Almirón’s cycle and had several opportunities when Diego Martínez was the coach. However, Fernando Gago did not give him many chances and the club decided to transfer him to Tigre so that he could continue with his projection. At Matador he became one of the team’s figures and revealed a more offensive side, scoring three goals and assisting his teammates on four occasions. With a contract until December 2028, he is one of those who could have a chance when he returns.
Oscar Solomon: The 26-year-old from Tucumán became the undisputed starter in the Platense defense. Pairing with Ignacio Vázquez, he was champion of the Apertura Tournament with a very high level. His performance, like that of the entire team, declined in the Clausura, but his place in the central duo remains. He still didn’t have opportunities in Boca’s Primera.
Bruno Valdez: He arrived in Boca at the beginning of 2023 to settle in the defense of the team led by Hugo Ibarra at that time. However, his weak level and the emergence of Nicolás Valentini relegated him more and more in consideration until he was left as the fourth central player on the team. In January 2024 he went on loan to Cerro Porteño, the club where he was born. A serious ligament injury and poor performance when it was his turn to play did not allow him to have the continuity he sought. His contract with Boca, like the loan, expires on December 31.
Gaston Gerzel: The 25-year-old winger from Chaco is one of those many Boca footballers who entered a loan loop that is difficult to get out of. He passed through Sarmiento, Platense and in the last two years he was in Los Andes. He rose from B Metro to Primera Nacional and this year he was an important part of Mil Rayitas. In total, 38 games, three goals and four assists for him during his time at the Lomas de Zamora club. His relationship with Boca ends at the end of the year and it is very likely that he will leave free.
Tomas Fernandez: Another case similar to that of Gerzel, although now little by little he is making a place for himself in the First Division. He was on loan at Tigre, Agropecuario and also had spells at Deportivo Maldonado and Cerro Largo in Uruguay before joining San Martín de San Juan, a club with which he was promoted last year and where he is going through a great personal moment. He comes from scoring the winning goal against Independiente last weekend and dreams of helping keep Santo in the top category of Argentine soccer. Ten goals and nine assists in 70 games for the winger from Junín whose contract with Boca also ends on December 31.
Norberto Briasco: He arrived in Boca in mid-2021 after a great time at Huracán, but he was never able to stand out. He ended up being an eternal substitute until mid-last year when they decided to look for a new direction for their career with a loan to Gimnasia de La Plata. At Lobo, he barely scored a goal. His contractual relationship with Xeneize ends in December 2026, so he will have to return at the end of the year and look for a new destination.
Agustín Obando: The winger from Monte Caseros debuted under the wing of Gustavo Alfaro in 2019. With Lechuga and during Miguel Ángel Russo’s first cycle he saw minutes, especially coming from the substitute bench. Then began a streak of assignments in which he played little or nothing: first in Tigre, then in Platense and finally in Banfield, where he is no longer called up and has even played for the Reserve. He must return in December and his contract expires in a year.
Alexis Alvariño: Central marker, 24 years old, spent most of his career in the Brazilian promotion. Since leaving Boca in 2022, he went through Clube do Remo de Porto Alegre, Guaraní and is now at Amazonas FC in Serie B. Beyond the fact that he must return in December, his contract with Xeneize expires a year later and he could obtain another loan in the neighboring country, where he is little by little making a name for himself.
Gonzalo Morales: El Toro is earning a place in the First Division of Argentine soccer. After a good time in Unión, he became important in Barracas Central, where he alternates with Jonathan Candia. He just converted in the 2-2 draw against Tigre and already has three goals in 26 games with the Guapo shirt. Like many of those on this list, he is due to return in December, but his contract ends in a year.
Renzo Giampaoli: The case of the 25-year-old center back was peculiar because the three previous times he went out on loan, he had done very well. He stood out in Quilmes, in Defensor Sporting in Uruguay and even in Rosenborg in Norway. However, in Gimnasia he could not fully adapt and his first experience in the highest category of Argentine football is costing him more than he imagined.
Gonzalo Maroni: That 18-year-old who made his debut against Arsenal in 2017 and amazed everyone with his quality is far away. Without opportunities in a Boca squad that exuded hierarchy, he went on loan three times until he had his second opportunity at Xeneize in 2021. He failed to take advantage of it and another cycle of loans for Argentine football began. He passed through San Lorenzo, Tigre and is now at Newell’s, where, despite having some flashes of quality, he is mired in the bad moment that the team is going through. It is practically impossible for him to have a third chance at the club.
Juan Ramirez: The left-footed midfielder arrived in mid-2021 after a great time at San Lorenzo. He started off on the right foot, but little by little he began to deflate until he became one of the footballers most criticized by fans. Between 2023 and 2024 he practically did not play and in January of this year he went on loan to Lanús. He is a spare part in a team that works well and won the Copa Sudamericana, but never managed to earn the starting job. With Granate he has accumulated 27 games without goals or assists. His contract with Boca expires in December 2026.
Nicolas Orsini: Another who arrived alongside Briasco and Ramírez and was never able to find a place in Boca’s Primera. His cycle wore out faster than that of his two teammates and in mid-2023 he left Xeneize to wear the Unión shirt, where he spent a year and a half. In January he arrived in Platense, where he played little, but scored a crucial goal against Racing to qualify Calamar for the Apertura quarterfinals, which they would end up winning. That was his only goal in 21 games with Vicente López’s team.
Lucas Brochero: The striker from La Para suffered a torn ligament in February of this year that practically prevented him from playing with the Chacarita shirt, a club he had joined a month before and for which he had played only two games. At 26 years old, his relationship with Boca ends in December and he will leave free.
Israel Escalante: At 28 years old, the forward born in Resistencia has not yet had a loan to help him catapult his career. He went through Independiente Medellín, through Alajuelense in Costa Rica, through Estudiantes de Río Cuarto and this year he was in Boca Unidos in Corrientes, where he alternated starts and substitutes in a team that was eliminated from the Reválida against Juventud Antoniana de Salta. His year ended early and he will have to return to Boca Predio for the last time before keeping the pass in his possession.
Agustín Heredia: The central defender who played three games with Boca’s Primera, is making a career outside of Argentina. Beyond the fact that he was on loan in Godoy Cruz and San Martín de San Juan, his best version was shown in Uruguay with the Cerro Largo and Plaza Colonia shirts.
