Chinese tennis player Fang Renrong was banned for 12 years and fined $110,000 for match-fixing 22 consecutive matches in five months.
According to a release from the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), the 25-year-old tennis player admitted to match-fixing five of his matches in the lower leagues and bribing and enticing other tennis players in 11 matches, six of which were match-fixed.
ITIA said the violations occurred from May to September 2024. During this period, Fang Renrong participated in many tournaments belonging to the ITF system in Türkiye and China, and Prada was eliminated in the ATP Challenger last open qualifier.
The organization did not disclose details of the list of matches that were match-fixed. Fang Renrong achieved a career-high ranking of 316th in the ATP Rankings 1 in 2024.
The tennis player’s ban will remain in effect until 2036, including any period during which he was previously suspended. Of the $110,000 fine, $70,000 will be deferred.
In addition to being banned from competing, Fang Renrong is also prohibited from working or attending any events organized by major international tennis organizations or domestic tennis federations.
A week earlier, the ITIA announced that French tennis player Teen Polio had been banned for 20 years in connection with systematic match-fixing and recruiting of other tennis players. Pollio is the sixth tennis player to be severely punished for incidents involving the group.
