A youth team from Independiente will compete in the UC Cup that will take place in the coming days.
This is Jonathan Guerrero, a 2009 youth category who arrived at Independiente in 2022, at only 13 years old. The young man already has several call-ups in Chile’s youth teams; He was born in Punta Arenas and has lived in Argentina for four years. A year after his arrival at the King of Cups, he emerged as the top scorer in the Metropolitan League, since he was not qualified to play in the AFA youth tournament.
Starting Monday, December 16, the UC Cup will be played at the Claro Arena, a traditional tournament organized by the Catholic University. Its first version was held in 1995 and the last in 2018. This year, the contest will be played again with the participation of Argentina, Qatar, Venezuela, Universidad Católica, Colombia, Independiente del Valle, Peru and Chile. Guerrero will seek to capture everything he has been demonstrating in the King of Cups.
The competition format will feature the first phase that will be divided into two groups of four teams playing all against all. The first and second in each zone will be measured by first to fourth place. The third and fourth in each group will play for fifth to eighth place.
Within the list of 21 called up that coach Ariel Leporati presented, there is a boy who also plays in the youth teams of Argentine soccer. The young promise Guerrero is joined by forward Bastián Vilchez, Argentinos Juniors player. Both Guerrero and Vilchez overcame the cut where they went from 37 to 21 players.
There are similarities between the cases of Guerrero and Lautaro Millán. Millán, now with a place in the Chilean senior team, played several matches with the Argentina Under-20 team.
