The Kansas City Chiefs are currently plagued by bad luck at the quarterback position. After Patrick Mahomes’ serious injury, backup Gardner Minshew was also hit.
The Kansas City Chiefs find themselves in a quarterback dilemma in the final weeks of the NFL season. After Patrick Mahomes tore his cruciate ligament last week, his deputy, Gardner Minshew, was also seriously injured.
The 29-year-old suffered a knee injury in a Week 16 game against the Tennessee Titans. At first his return to the pitch during the game was considered questionable, but later it was finally ruled out.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Chiefs fear an ACL tear. The same injury that Mahomes suffered. However, a confirmatory diagnosis is still pending.
Until his injury, Minshew had little to shine. He completed just three of eight passes for 15 yards and ran once for another eight yards. After his departure, Chris Oladokun, the Chiefs’ actual number three, took over the offense.
NFL: Patrick Mahomes has already undergone surgery
However, the outcome of the final weeks has little sporting relevance for the Chiefs. It was already clear last week that Kansas City would miss the playoffs for the first time in eleven years.
Mahomes had already undergone surgery following his serious injury, and the three-time Super Bowl winner is expected to be out of action for nine months. His return at the start of the new season will probably be a race against time.
