Cheng Kai Visits Macao: Special Olympics & Disability Federation Leader

Cheng Kai, Director of the Special Olympics Paralympic Organizing Committee and Chairman of the China Disabled Persons’ Federation, visited Macao

Cheng Kai, director of the National Paralympic Organizing Committee and chairman of the China Disabled Persons’ Federation, and his delegation visited Macau from December 12 to 13 to observe the badminton competitions in the Macau Division of the Paralympics. They also inspected various events in the Macau Division and discussed the future development of sports for persons with disabilities with Ke Lan, chairman of the Paralympic Macau Organizing Committee and Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macau Special Administrative Region Government.

Cheng Kai, a delegation visiting Macau, visited the Macau East Asian Games Stadium and the Macau Variety Theater to watch the badminton events of the Paralympic Games and Special Olympics, and inspected athlete training. During the period, he had cordial exchanges with the participating athletes and encouraged them to bravely pursue their dreams and achieve a brilliant life.

The two parties also held talks on the development of sports for people with disabilities. They believed that solid event organization will help athletes devote themselves to the event, and will also help demonstrate society’s care and respect for the disabled group, and present to the world a sports and cultural event of “equality, participation, and sharing”. Under the guidance of the China Disabled Persons’ Federation and the State Sports General Administration, Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao have implemented the “simple, safe and exciting” competition requirements and successfully hosted the Special Paralympic Games. This will strengthen communication and collaboration between the mainland and Macao on disability affairs, provide more opportunities for people with disabilities in Macao to participate in sports and showcase their talents, promote social inclusion and equality, and jointly promote the all-round development of the cause of people with disabilities.

Also present at the meeting were Lin Yuan, Director of the Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Pan Yongquan, Director of the Preparatory Office for the Macau Region, Huang Lili, Advisor of the Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Fu Sina, Deputy Director of the Preparatory Office for the Macau Region, and other members of the visiting delegation to Macau, including the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office of the China Disabled Persons’ Federation Director Xu Ling, second-level inspector Zhou Hong of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office, fourth-level researcher Lin Shuaihua of the Education Department of the Ministry of Education and Employment, as well as deputy director of the Hong Kong and Macao Work Coordination Department of the Guangdong Special Olympics Paralympic Area Executive Committee and deputy director of the Provincial Disabled Persons’ Federation Chen Jishan, director of the Macau Office of the Liaison Department Liu Bingfang and deputy director of the Macau Office of the Liaison Department Luo Zhifeng.
