Cercle: Former Club Brugge Coach Appointed – Football News

Cercle Brugge has made a change in the technical staff. Goalkeeping coach Stefan Toonen, active with the association since 2022, is leaving green-black. His place will be taken by Wouter Biebauw, who gained experience in coaching at Club Brugge after his career as a professional goalkeeper.

Career and experience

During his career, Biebauw defended the goal of KV Mechelen, KV Oostende, KSV Roeselare and Beerschot. After his active period, he entered the coaching profession. At Club Brugge he first worked with the promises and later also with the first team. During that period he was part of a staff that won the league title, the Belgian Cup and the Super Cup.

He was fired from Club Brugge last week together with Nicky Hayen. Cercle emphasizes that Toonen made an important contribution in recent seasons and thanks him for his efforts. The association wishes him success in his further career.

New role at Cercle

Technical director Luciano Murchio explained the choice of Biebauw. “I am very happy to welcome Wouter to the team. He brings experience at the highest level, a strong work ethic, a modern vision and a clear personality. He will play an important role in the further development of the team and our goalkeepers,” said a statement to our editors.

He indicated that the position of goalkeeper coach was seen by the association as an area where change was necessary. “We identified this position as an area in which a change was necessary to take the next step as an association. We are convinced that Wouter will have a direct impact in the short term as well as help build our long-term vision and objectives.”

With the arrival of Biebauw, Cercle Brugge wants to further strengthen the development of its goalkeepers. The association sees him as a trainer who can support sporting results as well as contribute to the broader ambitions of the association.
