Centrale Arena: 12,700-Capacity Venue – 2028 Completion

As is now certain, the Centrale del Foro Italico, in Rome, will have a new life and now there are also the first images of what the new tennis stadium will look like by 2028 which is also a candidate to host the matches of the future Capitoline team in the NBA Europe basketball, just as there is the intention to also attract the matches of the NFL, the US football league, as was recently the case at the Bernabeu in Madrid. The project and related rendering are the work of Sport e Salute, the public company that manages the Foro Italico. «The whole area is being redeveloped, we are in a restructuring phase that will start the day after the men’s final of the 2026 Italian Internazionali and will lead to the coverage of the Centrale by 2028 – Diego Nepi Molineris, CEO of Sport and Health, explained to Messaggero -. The capacity will be increased to 12,700 spectators, the entire facility will be heated and the overall investment expected is over 60 million euros. The intention is that the structure will work over 150 days a year, for sporting events and more, with revenues of 22 million euros per year.” The thirty-year usufruct for Sport and Health has been extended to 2100. A legal problem that has been resolved. The project for the central tennis stadium envisages a general architectural enhancement, including interventions to enhance the capacity and services to the public, the movable roof and the redefinition of the facades. Reference is also made to the Stadio dei Marmi which could become usable all 365 days a year. «We called this project “Illumina” – adds the CEO of Sport and Salute -. It will be free and accessible to everyone. There is also a beautiful tunnel underneath that we would like to bring to light.”
