2025 is truly a year to remember for the promising Italian judo player Caterina Mazzotti. Born in Riccione, the young athlete is the fresh winner of the gold medal at the Italian Judo Championships, held on 13 December at the Palafijlkam in Ostia, the highlight of the national competitive season.
To celebrate the prestigious gold medal and Caterina’s extraordinary sporting career, last Tuesday, in the representative room of the Town Hall, the Sports Councilor Simone Imola awarded her the recognition of “Ambassador of Riccione in the world”. A symbolic gesture that represents the affection and esteem of the city of Riccione for the young promise from Riccione. Caterina was accompanied to the meeting by her entire family who have always followed and supported her with affection and care.
Born in 2001, 24 years old, Caterina began practicing judo at the age of five, following in her brother’s footsteps. A passion that led her to leave home from a very young age to pursue her sporting dream: first in Lugo and then in Parma, where she currently trains and studies. His daily life is marked by intense training, including judo, athletic training and the gym, faced with perseverance, sacrifice and great determination.
At the Italian Championships, the judoka from Riccione was the protagonist of an impeccable competition, overcoming four matches until the final. “The semi-final was the best match – said Caterina – while for the final I got on the tatami concentrated and serene, with the aim of never giving up until the end”. The competition saw the participation of 237 athletes from all over Italy, confirming the value and level of the event. Registered for Ksdk Parma and accompanied by coach Luca Ravanetti, Caterina won the title in the -70 kg category.
2025 confirms itself as an extraordinary season for the athlete from Riccione. In addition to the Italian gold, Caterina Mazzotti also won the title at the National University Championships in Ancona and won the Italian Cup in Ostia. Results that establish her as one of the most promising athletes on the national judo scene.
During the meeting, the Imola councilor wanted to underline the sporting and human value of the athlete: “With this recognition we want to celebrate not only Caterina’s extraordinary results, but also her path made of commitment, sacrifice and passion. Bringing the name of Riccione to the top step of the national podium is a source of great pride for our entire community. Caterina is a positive example for young people and a true ambassador of the values of sport and of our city in the world”.
