On December 30th there was a dramatic fire in a single-family home around midday. The fire broke out for reasons that are currently unclear and triggered a major deployment by the fire brigade, rescue and police.
Large extinguishing operation
Several fire departments in the Weiten area (Melk district, Lower Austria) were alerted and quickly responded to the operational address. When we arrived, part of the house was already in flames! The fire department immediately began fighting the fire – both from outside and inside the building. A large part of the extinguishing work had to be done under heavy respiratory protection carried out as smoke and heat spread quickly.

Despite the challenging conditions, emergency services managed to bring the fire under control. This prevented further spread. Subsequent extinguishing work was then carried out to exclude possible embers and to secure the fire site.
The cause of the fire is under investigation
The Pöggstall Red Cross and the district operations manager of the RK Melk were also on duty. Fortunately, the fire did not require anyone to receive medical attention or be taken to hospital.
The police were also at the scene and began investigating the cause of the fire. It is currently unclear how the fire started. Further investigations are ongoing.
