Goalkeeper of the Kyiv Capitals of the Optibet Hockey League (OHL). Janis Voris in a conversation with “Latvijas Televīzija” he shared his thoughts about playing in this unit.

It became known about the “Capitals” playing in the OHL in the summer. At the beginning of August, the Latvian puck catcher Voris also joined the Ukrainian team, who is currently its main goalkeeper.

“One month until the start of the season, you couldn’t know if we would play or not. We went to the camp in Ozolnieki with that thought in August. Who are we training for – will we have a team or not? We were nervous, but, thank God, everything is fine. There is nothing to complain about – there is a masseur, a physiotherapist. Also all the ointments and pills we need. There is inventory, food. We are fed, clothes are given. Professionally, it is of a high level club. It would be a sin to complain, knowing how it is in other teams in Latvia. We appreciate it all,” emphasizes the Latvian.

Last season, Voris played for the Fife Flyers of the British Hockey League (EIHL), shooting 86.5% and averaging 6.22 ppg in 21 games. “You go into every game and know that you will lose, because that’s just the way it is. Physically, you can’t do anything when playing against four in two shifts. It’s nice that this year there are victories, the joy of hockey is back again. It’s cool to play, to win in a team that is strong, where there is a good team, a good organization. Step by step, we are moving forward,” says the hockey player.

It is not yet clear whether the Capitals will play in the OHL next year. “I already asked this – they say that it is not just a one-year project. If so, then I believe that it is a good opportunity for us Latvians to play at home and earn some more money. It is good to be in an organization where you only think about hockey and do not have to think about work in order to earn a living. I believe that it is a very good project for us Latvians. Hopefully, it will remain so in the long term,” says Voris.
