Brian Branch Injury: Season Over for Lions Safety

The black streak for the Lions defensive rearguard continues. According to ESPNBrian Branch tore his Achilles tendon during the game against the Cowboys on Thursday.

Such an injury therefore means an end to the season for the safety. The 3rd year player had 75 tackles, 2.5 sacks and 1 forced fumble in 12 games this season. In his absence, the position should go to Thomas Harper, and subsequently to Daniel Thomas or Avonte Maddox.

The absence of Brian Branch is a real headache for the Lions defense. The ultimate hybrid safety, Branch was capable of doing it all and lining up in different spots on the field. Detroit loses an important asset.

This is the second week in a row that a Lions defensive player has been injured for the season. Last week it was cornerback Terrion Arnold. Not to mention, the team has been playing without Kerby Joseph since week 6.

Engaged in a complicated fight to reach the playoffs, the Lions are clearly not varnished.
