During the night of Saturday 20 to Sunday 21 September 2025, several individuals, most of them with their faces hidden, some armed with tear gas canisters or a baseball bat, attacked customers at the Café de la plage located at Place Guérin in Brest.
Videos of the altercation were widely shared on social networks.
An investigation was immediately opened.
“The investigations carried out by police investigators from the Local Judicial Police Service (SLPJ) of Brest, under the direction of my prosecution, have made it possible to identify several of the possible attackers involved in these offenses,” indicates prosecutor Stéphane Kellenberger in a press release.
Searches carried out
Nine people, all adults and under 30 years oldwere taken into custody on Tuesday December 16. Searches were carried out. Knives, balaclavas, baseball bats, iron bars, and an airsoft gun were seized.
“At the end of the hearings and having regard to the needs of the investigations remaining to be carried out for the manifestation of the truth, these measures have been lifted, while investigations will continueas part of this preliminary procedure for “aggravated intentional violence, aggravated damage and participation with weapons in a gathering by people hiding their faces”, concludes the prosecution.
