The Kansas City Chiefs’ season was a real nightmare. On Sunday they were eliminated and at the same time lost Patrick Mahomes for the rest of the season. The 30-year-old quarterback tore his anterior cruciate ligament, reminiscent of Tom Bradywhich suffered the same fate in 2008.
Brady knows what the rehab process is after a torn ligament, and therefore, in the podcast ‘SiriusXM’s Let’s go’ he advised the Chiefs quarterback so that he can return and maintain the same pace in his career.
“The only thing you can do is focus on what’s ahead of you and don’t look back,” Brady said. “And just saying, this is part of what my career is going to be. And a lot of people have been through it and a lot of people have gotten through it. You just have to put so much diligence into the rehab process. And I always feel like the quicker you rehab, the quicker you can get back to playing the sport that you love. I think sometimes people go at their own pace. Instead of training mode, they’re in rehab mode. I think you have to go through rehab mode as quickly as possible. and then you go back to training mode. But that It requires total commitment and it is the same commitment that great professional athletes make to be excellent in their profession, you need that same level of focus and determination.”
Brady and Mahomes’ careers have been very similar. The former New England Patriots quarterback suffered the terrible injury at the beginning of his ninth season, the same case as the Chiefs, who will now miss the rest of the campaign.
Brady acknowledges that rehabilitation is complicated
For the winner of seven championship rings, rehabilitation is complex and that is why he considers that Mahomes will have to be patient to be able to return to the field.
“It’s a difficult rehabilitation. It’s one of the most difficult rehabilitations,” Brady said. “I just remember that every day I pushed myself. And it’s always the same amount of pain and discomfort, except you’re progressing through that pain and discomfort, which is a difficult psychological thing to combat. You feel like every day, you don’t feel good. Except you’re gaining range of motion and you’re gaining strength and you’re on the road to recovery. So I wish him the best.”
