Bot/Plume: 6th Place at Park City World Cup

The team of duo Mārtiņš Bots/Roberts Plūme reached the 6th place in the World Cup on Friday at the Parksity track in the USA and were the best in the Latvian luge sports team. There was no shortage of falls on the challenging track, and the competition ended so unpleasantly for several Latvian participants.

The men’s doubles was won by Germany’s Toni Eggerts and Florian Meller, who edged Bota/Plumi by 0.322 seconds.

In the race affected by warm weather, Bots/Plüme reached the sixth position in the first race, but finished in the top ten in the second race. Eduards Ševics-Mikelševics/Lūkass Krasts were eighth in the total, who were prevented from keeping the 7th place achieved in the first race by the 13th result achieved in the second race.

In women’s doubles, Anda Upīte/Madara Pavlova reached 7th place, while Marta Robežniece/Kitija Bogdanova did not finish after falling in the first race. The German team Dayana Eitberger/Magdalena Matščina won, ahead of the Latvian team by 1.257 seconds. Only one thousandth of a second separated Upīti/Pavlova from the top six.

In the solo competition, women and men completed the first race, but the competition will conclude with the second race on Saturday, when the team relay is also planned.

For women, Kendija Aparjode is seventh before the second race, Elīna Ieva Bota is in 19th position, immediately behind the TOP20 is Margita Sirsniņa, whereas Zane Kaluma fell in the first race. Aparjode is 0.207 seconds behind the leader’s host, Summer Bricher.

After the first men’s race, Kristers Aparjods finishes the top dozen 0.808 seconds behind the leader from Austria, Jonas Meller, Gints Bērziņš is in 16th place, but Kaspars Rinks did not make it to the finish line.

The luge athletes will have one more stage in the USA until Christmas, measuring their strength in Lake Placid, but right after the centenary, the World Cup season is expected to continue in Sigulda. The qualification for the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympic Games will end in January with the race in Winterberg, where the fifth stage of the World Cup will take place.
