According to Bornauw, the situation has changed radically since the vote. The situation surrounding the television contract forces him to return to the negotiating table. According to him, the decisions of the Pro League meeting of February 2025 should therefore be suspended.
“We are in a completely different reality, especially because of the television contract,” he explains, emphasizing the need to quickly create economic clarity and stability for the clubs.
Bornauw states: “We must dare to look at the situation as a whole.” The CEO does not hide his preference: a maximum of 16 teams in D1A — play-offs will be retained, although the format is negotiable. This position breathes new life into the debate.
Bornauw’s statement comes at a time when the Pro League is experiencing tensions, with financial uncertainties, criticism of governance and sporting pressure. In any case, Anderlecht wants to contribute to a file that can reshape the Belgian football landscape for the coming years.
